Civic issues
Topics getting the most attention in San Marcos public meetings, ranked by how frequently they come up.
Cancellation of the San Marcos Holiday Parade
Mission Hills High band students and parents pleaded with the council to help save the holiday parade, which faces cancellation now that Kiwanis has stepped down as sponsor. They asked the city to lead fundraising and planning so the community tradition survives.
Future of the Holiday Parade
Kiwanis is stepping down as the Holiday Parade's organizer, and the city would need $50-70K and heavy staff time to run it this December. Rather than cut into public safety or road budgets, the council punted the question to a goal-setting meeting, likely February.
Park Improvements Funding (CIP #PK013)
The city will update its playground condition assessment and replace playgrounds at at least two parks, plus better coordinate Sheriff outreach, code enforcement, parking, and animal control.
Corky Smith Gym HVAC Upgrades
A nearly $1.3 million Trane contract will replace aging HVAC serving the shared Corky Smith Gym and Boys & Girls Club, funded partly by a $275,000 transfer from the city's infrastructure fund.
